Windows VPS for remote desktop (RDP)
A Windows VPS gives you an always-on Windows desktop you can reach from any device using Remote Desktop. It suits running Windows-only software, keeping a work environment separate from your laptop, or leaving long tasks running while you are offline.
Get a personalised recommendationWhy Windows needs more memory
Windows Server and its desktop shell use noticeably more RAM and disk than a minimal Linux install before you open any program. 1 GB will boot, but 2 GB is a practical minimum for light single-user work, and 4 GB or more is better for browsers, office suites or several open applications.
Disk space
Windows updates and the system itself take a large share of the disk. Leave free space for monthly updates — a full disk is one of the most common causes of failed updates and slow servers.
Connecting securely
Use a strong, unique password, keep Windows Update enabled, and consider changing the default RDP port or restricting it by firewall to the IP addresses you use. Never reuse your administrator password elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions
How do I connect?
Use the built-in Remote Desktop Connection app on Windows, the Microsoft Remote Desktop app on macOS, iOS and Android, or a client such as Remmina on Linux.
Can more than one person use it?
Windows Server allows limited simultaneous admin sessions by default. More users usually require additional Remote Desktop licences — ask VPSFaster support about what is included.
Linux or Windows for remote desktop?
Choose Windows if your software is Windows-only. If you mostly need a browser or Linux tools, a Linux VPS with a lightweight desktop is cheaper.
